Squamish RCMP issue $1,150 ticket for starting campfire

Squamish RCMP issued a violation ticket to a person for starting a campfire along a local forest service road.

On July 17, Squamish RCMP investigated a report of campfire along Shannon Creek Forest Service Road.

Officer located the campfire and the person who started it.

Since the fire was in contravention of provincial campfire regulations, officers issued a violation ticket of $1,150 under the Wildfire Act.

The fire was put out safely.

Since June 30, all campfires, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires have been banned in BC, and all campfire permits are suspended until the ban is lifted.

To report an unattended campfire or open burning violation call 9-1-1. To report a wildfire, call 1-800-663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cell phone.
