Call 911, even on suspicion of fire: Chief Bill Stoner

Staff report
July 21, 2021 12:37pm

Squamish Fire Rescue is reminding residents to call 9-1-1 anytime a fire is suspected.

On Tuesday, July 20, Squamish Fire Rescue crews responded to a reported smell of smoke in the area of Brennan Road.

However, nothing was found.

“Squamish Fire Rescue wishes to remind residents to call 9-1-1 anytime a fire is suspected, even if it’s a false alarm,” says fire chief, Bill Stoner.

Squamish Fire Rescue crews also responded to a small fire at the Squamish Landfill at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 18.

This was the second fire at the landfill in the last two weeks.

A sprinkler system was set up to keep the area wet throughout the evening.

Residents are reminded to report any open fires or illegal campfires by calling 911 immediately.

To report a wildfire call *5555 from a mobile device.
