SD 48 will not mandate COVID vaccination for staff

Staff report
November 16, 2021 3:54pm

SD 48 will not mandate COVID-19 vaccination for its staff.

“After careful consideration, the Board of Education of School District No.48 will not mandate COVID-19 vaccines for staff,” the board said in a release.

“The board, along with staff, has gathered information with respect to our vaccination rates, rates of transmission, advice from VCH, collaboration with BCSTA and have decided that we will not be implementing a mandatory vaccination for staff”, says Rebecca Barley, School District No.48 Board of Education’s Chair.

The Sea to Sky area has high community vaccination rates, the media release says.

Provincially 91% of those eligible have had one dose of the vaccine and 97% in the Howe Sound region. Provincially 87% of those eligible have had two doses of the vaccine.

In making this decision, SD 48 Board said it carefully considered all implications of a vaccine mandate for staff, including information and guidance of public health officials.

In doing so, the Board reviewed the K-12 Sector Guidelines for Vaccination Policies developed by the Ministry of Education, BC Public School Employers’ Association and the provincial advisory group.

Gut less …. but not an uncommon decision based on the calibre of people working in that field. Hopefully it the decision has nothing to do with religion, or we are doomed. Covid pandemic is only going to be put behind us if the leaders are willing to lead.

I agree with you 100%. Very selfish people they are.

The universal freedoms stop whenever someone is forced on something, regardless of the cause…
The education and promotion of the vaccination should lead to many people taking it, but forcing it on people by passing it to employers to do it, instead of the Government (politicians’ job security), is plain bordering to behavior of some countries we would never chose to live in… I fully support everyone who took the shots, but also understand those few rare companies who have chosen to not have it forced on their employees, as well as I fully support the people who decide for themselves how to proceed. There is NOTHING gutless or selfish in educated personal decisions, like it or not…
