Frigid weather, wind warning for Howe Sound

December 1, 2022 6:42am

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Howe Sound while a special weather statement is also in effect for the area.

An arctic ridge of high pressure is generating strong outflow winds, with gusts ranging from 70 to 90 km/h over southern sections of Howe Sound this morning. Winds will ease somewhat later this morning but are then expected to redevelop over southern Howe Sound tonight.

Meanwhile, a special weather statement is also in effect for Howe Sound. Temperatures will fall and conditions will be icy. Increasing outflow winds have brought colder air to the south coast, with windchill values ranging from -5 to -10 to be expected in areas exposed to the outflow winds.

Temperatures will fall below zero, and untreated road surfaces and sidewalks could impact the Thursday morning commute. The frigid temperatures are expected to remain through Thursday night.
