Squamish SAR has been selected as a top 5 finalist and is the only Canadian Team in the Search, Rescue and Emergency Services category of the Defender Service Awards.

“We are thrilled to be named in the top 5 but now we need help from our community and beyond,” says Raz Peel, President of Squamish Search and Rescue.

Awarded by popular vote, the winning team will get to bring home a brand new customized Land Rover Defender in addition to a $25,000 USD donation and many in-kind Pelican products valued at over $8,000 USD. Voting ends October 4. “This vehicle would be an amazing asset for our team when responding to tasks. We would love your help and support in getting the word out and getting as many votes as possible will help us bring this Defender home to Squamish,” says Peel.

Voting starts today and people can vote daily through October 4.

With over 6,400 task hours per year, the SAR’s 80 member team is one of the busiest in Canada. The Squamish SAR’s response area covers vast and immense terrain, from swift white water rivers, high alpine peaks and glaciers, to massive rock faces and extensive mountain bike and hiking trails.

“We promote the importance of trip planning and outdoor safety with emphasis on public education and outreach. We strive to mitigate the severity of the accidents that do happen through a combination of equipment, training and expertise in high alpine, avalanche, rope, helicopter long-line and swift water rescue disciplines,” SAR says.

I saw your request on Globle News tonight and am wanting to vote for your team to win the new rescue truck. Tried to fill out the voting page but was unable to input the information.
Hope this will help you to get your team the new rescue truck.
Also hoping this reaches your department to get the vote.
