Notice: Recycle BC Queen’s Way depot collection interruption

staff report
June 17, 2024 5:27pm

Recycle BC has announced that the Queen’s Way Recycling Depot, currently operated by GFL, will cease operations on June 14, 2024. This closure will also affect Britannia Beach and Furry Creek residents, necessitating adjustments to recycling routines.

While the transition is in progress, residents can continue using the curbside and multi-family collection programs for most residential packaging and paper products, including newspapers, magazines, cardboard, steel and aluminum cans, rigid plastic containers, soup cartons, and paper beverage cups and lids.

For items not accepted curbside, such as glass, flexible plastics, and foam, residents have several alternative options:

  • London Drugs (Garibaldi Village Shopping Centre): Accepts flexible plastics and foam packaging (limit one small bag per visit).
  • Whistler: Function Junction Depot (1001 Lynham Road) and Nesters Depot (8006 Nesters Road).
  • North Vancouver: North Shore Bottle Depot (235 Donaghy Ave), North Vancouver Bottle and Return-It Depot (310 Brooksbank Ave), and North Shore Recycling and Waste Centre (30 Riverside Drive West).
  • Squamish Landfill: 100 Landfill Rd, Brackendale.

In addition, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) in partnership with Squamish Climate Action Network (CAN) will host Pop-Up Depots to collect flexible plastics and foam packaging at the following locations and times:

  • Furry Creek (Community Centre parking lot at Oliver’s Landing)
    • June 28, 10 am to 1 pm
    • July 26, 10 am to 1 pm
    • August 23, 10 am to 1 pm
  • Britannia Beach (location to be determined)
    • June 27, 4 pm to 7 pm
    • July 25, 4 pm to 7 pm
    • August 22, 4 pm to 7 pm
