Kiteboarder dies at Sp’akw’us Feather Park

A kiteboarder has died at the Sp’akw’us Feather Park in Squamish, District of Squamish has confirmed.

In a statement, the District said Squamish Fire Rescue received a 9.1.1. call on Canada Day, around 4:27 pm, regarding an injured kiteboarder at the watersports beach area at Sp’akw’us Feather Park on the Squamish oceanfront peninsula. Despite extensive rescue and resuscitation efforts, the kiteboarder was confirmed deceased at the scene.

“The District is deeply saddened by this outcome and wishes to extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased at this difficult time. The District would also like to express gratitude to all those who stepped in to help, and to recognize the swift response of the Squamish Windsport Society (SWS) operations crew on duty at Pepahim (Spit Island) who reached the injured kiteboarder within minutes and began first aid in this emergency,” District said.

The district also thanked the Squamish Fire Rescue crews and all first responders on the scene and worked with key parties to understand the details of the accident and any next steps that may result from the investigation.
