FortisBC crews will begin construction activities northeast of Valleycliffe, including controlled blasting, drilling, and hammering, to prepare the area for a new gas pipeline.

In a notice, FortisBC said these methods are standard procedures used to safely break apart rock as part of pipeline construction. The work is expected to start as early as January 19 and will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Powerlines and poles on a nearby private property will also be relocated as part of the project. To maintain public safety, the company emphasized that its right-of-way and trails in the area will remain closed at all times, including Sundays.

FortisBC said in the notice that the company will continue working with the community and recreational user groups to provide updates on construction activities.
