I attended several of the community consultation sessions over the last two weeks to learn more, however, these sessions left me with more questions than answers.

Last year started with a coyote killing a small dog from a front yard in the Garibaldi Highlands. A coyote also killed a cat in the Garibaldi Highlands. The cougars may have receded into the wild, but pets in Squamish face new foes: Coyotes and bobcats.

District of Squamish is refusing to issue a business license to a downtown business, asking them to either apply for a rezoning or move to a location zoned commercial.

District of Squamish has rolled out its first-ever investment incentive program, available from now through to August 31, 2016. The incentive program provides property tax exemptions and façade improvement grants targeting commercial and mixed-use developments in downtown and industrial development in the Business Park.

An application has been made to rezone a parcel of land on Depot Road in Brackendale from the existing Rural 2 to Rural 1 zoning.

Squamish council voted unanimously on Tuesday, Feb. 18, to remove a proposed ban on future drive-throughs from its OCP amendements.

Development services at the district almost doubled its revenue this year. Bylaw enforcement was also richer by $46,150, thanks to dog licences.

For two days every week, the Sikh temple on Fifth Ave. rings out with the sounds of Punjabi alphabets as children learn the language their parents hope will keep them connected to their culture.

When complete, the Legacy Sports Park will house complete small ski jumps, a lit running loop, a biathlon range, pavilion, walking trails, a climbing training wall and more.
