The Squamish RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in a sexual assault that occurred on Sunday, November 17, at 3:15 p.m. at the Squamish Community Garden Plots, near Hwy 99 and Mamquam Rd.

The suspect is described as an East Indian male, approx. 50 years of age, 5’6″, with a stocky build, clean shaven, and wearing a blue turban and dark windbreaker.

He was described as having eyes that protruded or “stuck out.”

The victim was at the garden plot when the suspect approached and engaged her in conversation about the area.

Although the suspect’s English was poor, he indicated he had come to the area possibly three months ago and claimed to live somewhere towards the west side of Hwy 99 and Mamquam Rd.

The male also indicated that he was possibly a sugar cane farmer in India. The suspect began asking the woman personal questions and then tried to embrace her, touching her in an inappropriate manner.

When rebuffed, the suspect tried to carry on a conversation as if nothing had happened. The victim left the area immediately afterwards.

RCMP is also calling upon another woman who talked to same man to contact the police.

Vehicle Thefts

Squamish RCMP is also reporting thefts from several vehicles in the last few weeks. As many as 10 vehicles have been targeted. On Tuesday, Jan.7, a vehicle was broken into while parked in the parking lot of a hotel in the business park.

Thieves broke the window panes and took away two U.S. passports, a 60 gb IPod Touch, two pairs of Maui Jim sunglasses and a quantity of alcohol.

The passports were located a short distance away, along a walking path. On the same day, another report was received of a vehicle theft from a car parked overnight at Cat Lake.

The driver’s side window was smashed, and stolen in this incident were a pair of glasses, sunglasses, a snow board bag, running shoes, books, a winter jacket and an emergency car tool kit.

On Sunday, Jan. 12, police were informed of a car being broken into on Discovery Way.

The front passenger window was smashed and stolen were a boy’s grey and blue Firefly ski jacket and blue ski pants. Police have also reported at least six cases of domestic assault by men on women in the past two weeks.

Maybe this poor guy just needed a hug! A hug is a great healing therapy.

Truly, Anonymous. Not saying that was the case here, but N. American culture far too quickly waves the ‘inappropriate’ card in many situations. Like old folk chatting to youngsters in a playground. Next thing you know someone has dialed 911. Sometimes its all so self-righteous it turns one’s stomach.
