District to do energy retrofit study for Brennan Park Recreation Centre

District of Squamish is inviting proposals for an energy retrofit study for the Brennan Park Recreation Centre.

According to bid documents, the district is seeking an experienced energy consultant to complete an energy retrofit study.

The recreation centre requires significant upgrades and expansion to meet current demand and future community needs.

The energy retrofit study, the district says, would identify carbon reduction and other energy conservation measures to tie the district’s climate action goals to the need for a facility upgrade.

The district is also inviting bids for LED lights for Brennan Park.

It also plans to do emergency repairs at the Brennan Park swimming pool and at the Squamish Adventure Centre.

In September, an insurance inspection found 17 hazards in district buildings that need to be rectified.

Two of those were substantial hazards that require an emergency response.

Welcome to the real world. Easy to spend other peoples money especially when the wages are totally out of control. Where does the DOS think the money is going to come from to conform to these demands ?. That should have been part of the preplanning. I would think it is the time for the DOS to consider their importance in the future of this community … they are not the guiding light…. sort of a dim light at the end of the tunnel and the dimming is constant. Question: have the staff ever been held responsible for their failures … we hear about the successes, but what about the failures ?

I did a study in 2010 that was just to difficult for the DOS to grasp. It involved the Brennan park pool and ice rink. I proposed using our Olympic legacy fund to use geothermal to transfer the heat from the ice rink to heat the pool. Every dollar of the current operating expenses could have been cut to about 22 cents. Where is Brent Leigh now? Whistler did it and I am sure that it would still be a liable solution but the Olympic Legacy fund went somewhere else for the benefit of fewer citizens. There you go Donald, a DOS failure and on subject. I couldn’t help myself.
