Squamish RCMP are investigating a violent early-morning incident at the downtown encampment that involved a discharged shotgun and bear spray deployed on sleeping occupants.

At around 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a possible shooting in the 37000-block of Third Avenue. Upon arrival, they found several people suffering from bear spray exposure. BC Emergency Health Services treated those affected at the scene, and no serious injuries were reported.

Investigators determined that bear spray had been sprayed into a tent occupied by three people, and a shotgun was fired during the incident. A group of individuals believed to be responsible fled before police arrived.

The Sea to Sky RCMP General Investigation Section has taken over the investigation and is processing the scene, which has been secured. Police are asking the public to avoid the area throughout the day.

Despite being in its early stages, investigators believe the attack was targeted.

“We understand incidents like this can be concerning, particularly when they occur in locations that have seen previous police activity,” said Staff Sergeant Sascha Banks, Operations Commander of the Squamish RCMP. “Our officers are actively investigating this matter and continue to conduct proactive patrols in the area.”

Anyone with information, dashcam footage, or video from the area is asked to contact Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100.

Squamish is the fakest Canadian town I’ve seen sadly but what do you expect from a town whose mayor sold it out so he could rich. Not everyone at under one roof is running around with guns and feel proud they still dropped kids off on the corner of the building after school. This town needs to kick out the migrants to the country so locals who grew up here can afford a place. Some people need a place for foundations to be able to work.

The real story is that people tried to rob me and my girlfriend. My brother came running to see what the yelling was and was bear sprayed by one of the people trying to rob us. We then were shot at. This all went down while we were sleeping. It would be nice if people could keep their comments to them selves. We go thru enough shit in our lives we don’t need to feel any worse. We know the community hates us and we.know how much they don’t want us to be here…..I’m sorry

I’m sorry that happened to you. I hope the offenders are caught so this kind of violence doesn’t happen again.
I’m sorry people on the internet are cruel. People down on their luck have the same right to safety and dignity that folks with privilege do.
Many of us do care and support you. The jerks are just louder about their opinions.
      Take care and stay safe

The problem with squamish is it is one of the least Canadian towns I have ever seen. Yes shit happens yesterday shit happens all the time anywhere. But to allow the locals to be pushed out by migrants to this country is a insult to our ancestors who built it. If under one roof is so dangerous why did the yellow buses drop children off beside the building after school yesterday. If your so concerned about your child’s safety maybe do what your grandparents would and get off your phat azz and walk them like I did for my siblings growi up in a town that’s really dangerous and not being hyped up because a select few of pretend Canadians are made about their property taxes…. Shame on you fake Canadians may you gtfo Canada thxs

I’m with the other comments. We need to re migrate and let the ones who are actually trying to make it to tmrw have a chance at life. Non of this dei shit. Let’s worry about squamish people in need before squamish people with greed make there comments
