Jeremy Valeriote will seek re-election in West Vancouver–Sea to Sky in the Oct. 24 provincial election, the BC Greens announced in a news release Wednesday.
Valeriote announced his intentions alongside party leader Emily Lowan and fellow MLA Rob Botterell, according to the release. Botterell will not seek re-election in Saanich North and the Islands, where Lowan will run instead.
Valeriote won a historic victory in 2024, becoming the first BC Green to represent a riding on the B.C. mainland, the release says. He had come within 60 votes of winning the riding in 2020, before a judicial recount confirmed Jordan Sturdy as the winner.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to continue representing the people of this incredible region,” Valeriote said in the release. “I’ve spent the last two years standing up for the priorities of the people of West Vancouver-Sea-to-Sky that the government too often ignores, including regional transit, passenger rail, highway safety, and protected farmland. I’m deeply committed to continuing this work for another term.”
Lowan said working with Valeriote and Botterell “demonstrated just how much Greens can get done, even when there’s only two of us in the Legislature,” adding that with the balance of power the Greens will hold the government to account.
