The River Forecast Centre has issued a high streamflow advisory for Howe Sound as a series of atmospheric rivers is forecast to bring heavy rain to B.C.’s South Coast.
A small subscription keeps the Squamish Reporter going.
The centre says rivers could rise rapidly, with localized minor flooding possible, particularly in smaller creeks. Rainfall warnings issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada forecast 100 to 130 millimetres of rain through Friday morning, with amounts reaching 175 millimetres locally or over higher terrain.

A second storm is expected late Saturday into Sunday, although the areas receiving the heaviest rainfall remain uncertain. A third system arriving late Monday could bring a prolonged period of rain to the coast next week.
According to the advisory, heavy rain and high streamflow increase the risk of unstable riverbanks, erosion, flooded roads, swift water hazards and landslides. Residents are urged to stay clear of fast-flowing rivers and avoid driving across flooded roads, bridges or river crossings.
Clearing fallen leaves from storm drains can also help reduce drainage problems.
Updated advisories are available on the River Forecast Centre website. Residents can register for local emergency notifications through SquamishAlert.
