Wildfire Update: Mamquam Fire is 60 Percent Contained. It is approximately three hectares in size and is ranked 1-2, on the six-level Wildfire Ranking scale, which indicates that there is smouldering ground fire and low vigour surface fire

Fire suppression crews have been working diligently throughout the day to establish hose lays around the Mamquam wildfire.

District of Squamish has hired a contractor for an Affordable Housing Service Program Service that would require working with BC Housing and developing housing policy.

The Downtown Squamish BIA has been in communication with the RCMP and Community Policing to proactively address the issue.

The Squamish Seniors’ Centre is being re-named The 55 Activity Centre, with expanded hours, new décor, and a broader programming focus to better serve Squamish’s diverse adult population.

District is currently installing new signs, with the first phase of signs being installed in the Downtown and Loggers Lane Area.

Gary Buxton, the general manager for community planning and infrastructure for the district, talks about trends in construction, processing time for building permits, and the challenges district faces as it deals with a construction boom in town.

The District of Squamish says there is no planned trail closure at this time. Any such decision by Squamish Fire Rescue within District of Squamish boundaries will follow a decision made by the provincial Coastal Fire Centre as the lead agency and subject matter expert in this area, and there is no such plan currently.

Up to 160 water meters will be installed in existing buildings by spring 2018, with additional meter installations planned for the following year.

Squamish will soon see the installation of two large-scale murals by Squamish-based artists Stan Matwychuk and Ciarra Douglas as part of the Squamish Murals Project.
