In April, staff from BC Parks and the BC Wildfire Service deactivated an unauthorized trail that began within Garibaldi Provincial Park, and extended to Crown land below the park. 

West Vancouver-Sea to Sky MLA Jordan Sturdy says the new provincial taxation system will negatively impact the economy and hurt local families and businesses in the area.

In Squamish, the average rent was $1,304, with 36 per cent renters spending more than 30 per cent of their income on rent.

The gala was sponsored by eleven businesses from Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton.

Called NextRide, the service provides passengers  with real-time data on the location of their bus and when it would arrive at a particular stop. It will also allow them to see how full a bus is at any given time.

The local police say they have seen an increase in calls for Elk on the highway around Squamish and are wanting to remind the public to keep an eye out for them while driving in the corridor.

Residents are urged to use extra caution around all local waterways and tributaries, and keep well back from the river banks - especially with children and pets. A rapid rise of water levels can be expected.

Third Crossing Society director Gary Fribance says a road connection from Powell River to Squamish will drive tourism, boost the economy, reduce traffic bottlenecks at the ferry terminals and string together coastal and interiors communities.

The B.C. government is investing $5.4-million on safety and mobility upgrades for the Sea-to-Sky Highway from Lions Bay to Pemberton, happening this summer and fall 2016.
